Spikes nestle perfectly into these grooves, and only a gentle squeeze of the handles is needed to hold them securely. The nose is specially contoured to push spikes home without slipping off and damaging the railhead or ties, and the comfortable grips let you spike for hours without fatigue. By: Peter R on 25 April 2014This is the only tool to use for the job of laying model rail track - it inserts railway spikes into wooden sleepers precisely, straight and without damaging the rail or sleepers. The pliers hold the spike securely in the t-shaped grooves, allowing you to confidently line the spike up, and push it home. to securely hold the rail against the sleeper. The pliers sit comfortably and ergonomically in the hand. A must have tool for the model railroader. Well done Xuron. Also use their rail cutters for clean cutting of rail.
