The contour gauge or profile gauge gives an exact copy of nearly any shape. Woodturners find this gauge very useful in reproducing furniture parts such as spindles. Measuring for moldings, and other woodwork or checking for dimensions are some of the many uses for this handy tool. Also ideal for taking copies of angles and copying around corners.
It's 250mm long by 100mm wide with a metric/inch scale on the gauge. Also includes magnetic strips for attaching to metal surfaces and blades can be locked in place.
Two countour gauges can be joined together by removing the end caps and leaving one of the metal tongues - then you can use this to rejoin the two together. Be careful, as after the endpieces have been removed the gauge’s blades can fall out. This is not a big problem and won’t damage the tool, but it is tiresome to put the pieces back!
By joining two long gauges, you can get a tool to take very precise profiles up to 514 mm in length.
Profile gauges are ideal for model makers as well - especially when replicating.
